A useful fit for

A solo camper or compact cook-kit planner who values a 56 g listed burner with folding supports and uses a small pan within the exact 14 cm / 2 L ceiling.

The main tradeoff

The package includes no fuel or ignition device, its exact manual requires Snow Peak-designated canisters, the listed mass is not a verified minimum, and no separate-windscreen permission is established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What cookware fits the exact LiteMax GST-120R-US?

Snow Peak's US page supports pans up to 5.5 inches, and the matching GST-120R manual sets a 14 cm / 2.0 L limit. This is a manufacturer ceiling rather than a promise that every pan at the limit balances. Check the base, load and supports on a level outdoor surface.

Does the LiteMax include ignition or only its folding arms?

The US page lists the stove and storage case; the exact GST-120R manual describes lighting with a separate match or lighter, not an automatic igniter. Its folding arms are described as a built-in windscreen feature, but the checked sources do not approve an additional separate windscreen.

Is 56 g a minimum-weight promise, and which fuel is compatible?

The page and exact manual list 56 g, but do not call it a minimum weight or a complete carry load. The manual says to use Snow Peak-designated canisters only; the US page's Iso-butane label does not establish generic EN 417, MSR 80/20 or Jetboil JetPower compatibility. Fuel is separate.

Assessment scope: This is a source-based review of the current US Snow Peak LiteMax Titanium Stove, SKU GST-120R-US. I did not use, weigh or test it. The published mass, fuel wording, cookware limit and output are manufacturer statements, not independent measurements or performance results.

A compact one-burner setup with a documented small-pan limit

The LiteMax is a direct-mount canister stove with three folding pot supports. Snow Peak's US page lists a 56 g weight, a 4.9-inch diameter and a 3.1-inch height; the exact GST-120R manual lists the same 56 g mass and 125 by 77 mm operating dimensions. Those figures make the stove's compact format easy to understand, but neither source calls 56 g a manufacturer minimum. It is also not the weight of a fueled cooking kit: the page lists a storage case, while fuel and cookware are separate.

The size that matters more in the kitchen is its cookware ceiling. Snow Peak describes the supports as suitable for pans up to 5.5 inches, with a 2 L limit; the exact GST-120R instructions corroborate a 14 cm / 2.0 L range. Treat that as a manufacturer maximum, not a test of every pan's base, handle clearance or loaded balance. A pot with a narrow or rounded bottom can sit differently from a flat pan of the same outside diameter. Check your actual vessel against all three supports and use a level surface.

Folding arms are not permission to add another screen

Snow Peak describes the folding arms as a built-in windscreen feature. That can be useful when evaluating the stove's design, but it is not evidence that the product has been tested in a particular wind or that a separate metal, foil or fabric screen is allowed. The checked product page does not document a separate-screen setup. The matcher therefore leaves that permission unknown; if an approved separate windscreen is essential, choose a model whose exact instructions explicitly say so rather than adding an unapproved shield around a canister.

The product page's first image shows the burner sitting on a Snow Peak canister. The image is helpful for understanding the direct-mount arrangement, but it does not show what is in the box. The page says fuel is sold separately and lists the stove and storage case as contents. Its folds reduce the support arms' storage profile; the manual's packed dimensions are 87 by 34 by 80 mm. Do not infer a full trip volume from the burner's small top-down diameter alone.

Fuel and ignition are specific, not plug-and-play

The US listing labels the fuel Iso-butane. The exact GST-120R manual also specifies Snow Peak-designated canisters only. These statements do not establish a generic EN 417 approval or equivalence with MSR 80/20 or Jetboil JetPower cartridges. Fuel is not included, so check the canister's brand and model against the current exact stove instructions before buying a replacement or planning a route around a particular supply.

Unlike the Auto GigaPower model, this LiteMax has no built-in automatic igniter. The GST-120R manual describes lighting with a match or lighter and a separate valve for controlling flame output. That leaves one small piece of ignition equipment to carry, and the lightweight burner does not eliminate the need for backup matches or a lighter. A control valve supports adjustable heat, but that is not proof of a stable low simmer with every pot or meal.

The product page lists 11,200 BTU, while the Japanese manual lists 2,800 kcal/h. Both are manufacturer specifications. They are not timed boils or comparisons against another burner, and the manufacturer notes that cartridge temperature can change combustion. No result here should be read as a guarantee in wind, cold or a particular cooking routine.

Use the exact manual, especially for care

The exact GST-120R manual available from Snow Peak is Japanese-language, and the current US page inspected did not expose a full model-specific English operating manual. A regional Snow Peak dealer's manual for the same base model corroborates the cookware and manual-lighting limits, but it is not a US English manual. Buyers should confirm the manual supplied with the exact US item and use it for assembly, cartridge choice and safe operation rather than transferring directions from another stove.

The manufacturer instructions call for checking the canister O-ring and stopping use if it is damaged, allowing the stove to cool before detaching fuel, and avoiding water on the burner head because corrosion or abnormal burning can result. They restrict operation to outdoors, not inside tents, vehicles or other enclosed spaces. The small package is not a license to relax leak checks, keep the flame attended or improvise around a connection problem.

Compare the LiteMax with a wider cookware option

The BiPod GS-370-US is the closer alternative when a larger one-pot pan matters: its exact manual allows up to 23 cm / 4 L and it has two adjustable legs, but the manual lists 220 g for the stove and another 16 g for its igniter. The LiteMax is the lighter listed body and the smaller-pan design, though its listed mass is not a verified minimum-weight figure. Both require Snow Peak-designated canisters and neither has documented permission for a separate windscreen.

The GigaPower Stove 2.0 - Auto and Manual Renewed have the same 14 cm / 2 L ceiling, but their ignition configurations differ: one includes an auto-igniter and the other uses manual lighting. Confirm the model code instead of using the family name alone. The LiteMax may suit a compact one-pan plan that fits the documented limit and can use the named Snow Peak fuel. It is a poor fit for large cookware, two simultaneous pans, a required approved separate screen, a verified minimum-weight target or a trip where compatible cartridges are not available. Check the exact SKU GST-120R-US, package, manual revision and cookware before buying.
