Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What fuel may be used in the Optimus Svea 8016279?
The maker specifies white gas, and the English manual says to use white gasoline (unleaded) only—not automobile gasoline. Do not transfer the Nova's multifuel list to this stove.
Explore this need in the finder →What does the Svea manual say about fuel volume?
Its English manual identifies a 0.18 L tank but says to fill it no more than two-thirds; the 0.12 L limit agrees with the fact sheet's full-fill burn-time specification. Do not use the physical tank capacity as the fill amount.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a separate windscreen be added to a Svea?
No. The manual includes an original windscreen assembly in the stove setup but warns not to cover the running stove with an added windscreen, stones or similar objects because they may cause overheating.
Explore this need in the finder →This is a source-based assessment of the Optimus Svea, item 8016279 / EAN 7391812001235, not a hands-on review. The current Katadyn page and English documents identify a compact, self-pressurizing white-gas stove with a small pot/lid. The manufacturer page does not establish a current US offer, stock or seller package, so this review does not claim that the model is readily available in the United States.
A compact brass stove with its tank underneath
The Svea’s burner, regulating key and fuel tank form a small integrated unit rather than a separate pump-and-bottle setup. Optimus lists a 550 g weight and a 100 × 130 mm size. Its fact sheet describes the 0.12 L use/fuel amount and up to 50 minutes at full output from one fill. The English manual says the tank itself holds 0.18 L but must be filled only two-thirds; the resulting maximum fill is 0.12 L. That distinction matters: tank capacity is not permission to fill to the brim.
The listed contents include the burner, regulating key and small cooking pot that doubles as the lid. The key also serves as a maintenance tool, and the built-in cleaning needle helps clear the jet. This compact all-in-one arrangement has fewer separate components to carry than a pumped liquid-fuel kit, but it does not include the same kind of replaceable external bottle. Its brass body is much heavier than a tiny canister burner, and the manufacturer’s 550 g figure is not a complete fueled load.
Fuel is narrowly specified
Optimus specifies white gas, and the English manual says to use only white gasoline (unleaded), not automobile gasoline. This is not the interchangeable multifuel claim used for the Nova, and it is not a canister stove. The user must also follow the exact instruction sequence for filling, priming and lighting. The 0.12 L safe fill limit, small fuel quantity and absence of a pump make it a different operating system from a remote bottle stove, not simply a lighter version of one.
The fact sheet lists about 1,400 W and approximately seven minutes to boil one liter. Those are manufacturer values, not timed results from this review. It also describes a self-pressurizing tank and says no pump is needed. The separate control key provides flame adjustment, and the manual describes the jet-cleaning function. Those are useful for a simple solo cooking plan, but there is still only one burner and no second flame for cooking two dishes at once.
Do not add a windscreen
The exact manual’s parts diagram includes the original Svea windscreen assembly, used as part of its instructed setup. The same instructions warn never to cover the operating stove with another windscreen, rocks or similar material because that can cause overheating. That wording does not approve an extra separate screen. This model therefore does not meet a requirement for a separately permitted add-on windscreen. The reviewed instructions do not provide a maximum cookware diameter, so the numeric pot-fit question remains unanswered; do not infer a safe pan limit from the stove’s 100 mm body diameter.
A specialist choice, not a universal short-cut
The Svea may merit comparison for a solo user who wants a compact self-contained white-gas design, is comfortable following its manual-led priming and cleaning instructions, and does not need a separate windscreen or a documented maximum-pan figure. Its maker describes use at altitude, but that claim is not a site test or a promise for every temperature or fuel. The unit is for outdoor use only. Before buying an existing example, verify that the exact model is 8016279, that its instructions and key are present, that its tank and seals are sound, and that the seller identifies the package and fuel requirements. No current US availability, price, ownership, or performance testing is represented.
