Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What is included with the standalone Genesis Basecamp Stove, and what is separate from the System package?
Exact US item GNST includes the two-burner stove, regulator, grate, drip tray, supplied Genesis windscreen, carry bag and instructions. The separate Genesis Basecamp System adds the matched 5 L FluxPot and 10-inch fry pan; those cookware pieces are not included with the standalone GNST stove. Fuel is separate in either case.

The exact North America Genesis manual specifies 16.4 oz disposable propane cylinders sold separately, or separately purchased ANSI Z21.81 / CSA 6.25 certified bulk-tank hose adapters. It permits only the windscreen supplied with this exact stove; other windscreens and outback ovens are prohibited, and the screen must remain at least 1 inch from cookware.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the listed 6 lb 3.2 oz Genesis Stove weight mean a ready-to-cook kit weight?
No. Jetboil labels 6 lb 3.2 oz / 2.8 kg as stove weight and says the regulator and carry bag are excluded. The propane cylinder and cookware are also separate; the listing does not identify this number as a minimum weight, so it is not used as a confirmed minimum or complete carried mass.
Explore this need in the finder →Assessment scope: current US Genesis Basecamp Stove, item GNST, UPC 0858941006274. This is the standalone two-burner stove package, not the Genesis Basecamp System with cookware and not either multi-stove bundle. This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on review or performance test.
The stove-only package is the key distinction
Jetboil's Genesis Basecamp Stove is a folding two-burner cooktop with its regulator, grate, drip tray, supplied windscreen, carry bag and instructions. It does not include the 5 L FluxPot or 10-inch fry pan that come with the separate Genesis Basecamp System. The distinction matters more than the similar name: GNST is a route into the Genesis cooking platform for someone who already owns suitable cookware or wants to choose it separately, while the System is the more complete matched kit. A 16.4-ounce propane cylinder is also separate.
The manufacturer lists a 20.5-by-9.8-inch open footprint and packed dimensions of 9.8 by 4.6 inches. It does not identify axes for the packed numbers. Jetboil lists 6 pounds 3.2 ounces (2.8 kg) as stove weight and says that figure excludes the regulator and carry bag. It is therefore not a full carried-package weight, and the page does not label it a minimum-weight value. Add the missing pieces and the separately chosen cookware when planning transport; do not use the page figure as a ready-to-cook load.
Two burners, two controls, cookware sourced separately
The open layout gives two simultaneous cooking positions. Jetboil lists each burner at 10,000 BTU per hour, a lever igniter on each burner and a four-turn control range. The North America manual explains that four complete rotations reach full gas flow and that the lit burner can be turned down. This supports classifying the stove as adjustable, but it does not establish tested flame stability, a low-flame threshold or a particular simmer result.
The product page describes a 3-minute-15-second-per-liter boil in the 5 L FluxPot, averaged over the life of a 1-pound propane cylinder, and 48 liters boiled per 1-pound cylinder. Because GNST does not include that pot, those are manufacturer claims under named conditions—not a measured result for any pot or pan a buyer brings. The product page names the 5 L FluxPot and Jetboil fry pans as compatible cookware, but the reviewed sources do not state a general maximum diameter for other vessels. Do not treat the open-stove width as a cookware limit or as required safety clearance.
Fuel and expansion need exact parts
The Genesis is a propane stove, not a threaded EN 417 isobutane canister burner. Its included regulator connects to the stove's female NPT inlet. The exact North America instructions specify a 16.4-ounce disposable propane cylinder, sold separately, or a separately sold hose adapter certified to ANSI Z21.81 / CSA 6.25 for a bulk tank. They warn that other gas canisters may be hazardous. That language does not approve a generic converter, an arbitrary quick-connect or a fuel arrangement borrowed from another stove.
The Genesis also has a JetLink output, but GNST's product page does not list a JetLink hose in the box. A compatible hose and a maker-certified accessory can expand the cook area; follow that accessory's exact instructions and verify the fittings before assembly. A port alone does not mean a third burner is included. The 3-Burner Bundle adds a HalfGen and JetLink hose, while the 4-Burner Bundle pairs two Genesis stoves; those are materially different packages and have their own reviews.
Use the supplied screen, not an improvised one
The Genesis manual limits operation to outdoors in a well-ventilated area. It specifically prohibits use in a tent, camper, vehicle, home or other enclosed space. Set the stove on a flat, level surface at least 1 meter (3.3 feet) from combustible materials and ignition sources. The stove's included windscreen is the only approved one; the manual warns that another screen or an outback oven can overheat the fuel cylinder. Leave at least a 1-inch gap between the supplied screen and any cookware.
Before lighting, check the regulator and seals and do a leak check outside with soapy water, never with a flame. Keep cookware off the grate during ignition, do not invert the cylinder, and do not move or tilt the stove while a burner is lit. Turn the burners off before disconnecting fuel, disconnect after every use and allow the stove to cool before packing. These are not optional accessories to the buying decision: the unit needs an outdoor work surface with the specified clearance and a fuel setup consistent with the manual.
Who should compare this version
GNST makes more sense when the buyer values a folding two-burner Genesis chassis but does not need the System's included pot and pan. If a ready-matched 5 L pot and 10-inch pan simplify the purchase, compare the Genesis Basecamp System and verify the separate package contents. If three or four cooking positions are essential, compare GNBDL3 or GNBDL4 instead of assuming an optional hose turns GNST into either bundle. The bundled models are two-stove layouts with distinct package contents, not just alternate colors.
Jetboil's published descriptions of boiling time, heat output and “simmer control” are manufacturer information; no independent cooking, wind or efficiency test was performed for this assessment. A limited CPSC 09-126 notice check names older PCS, Java, BDL and GCS150 configurations, not GNST; that is only a comparison with one historical notice, not a comprehensive or future recall guarantee. For a buyer who can source the exact propane setup and meet the outdoor, flat-surface, clearance and windscreen rules, the meaningful case for GNST is its two-burner folding layout and JetLink expansion path. It is a poor choice for indoor cooking, a minimalist walk-in load or anyone expecting cookware and fuel in the stove-only box.
